Day 4: Created

“We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.” Marianne Williamson

We’ve all been victims of Negativity’s nasty onslaught. She attacks in aggressive volleys, her advances barraging our minds with vicious accusations. In a world of Einsteins, Marilyn Monroes, American Idols, and Coco Chanels, it’s easy to fall into agreement with Negativity. We believe her words. We take them to heart. We forget who we REALLY are.

Ephesians 2: 10 says that

“…we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Are you as excited as I am to hear this?! Let me say it again. You are God’s MASTERPIECE. He has CREATED you ANEW in Christ Jesus, so you can do the GOOD THINGS He PLANNED for you LONG AGO.

  1. MASTERPIECE (definition from Dictionary.com): “a person’s greatest piece of work, as in an art.” YOU are God’s GREATEST, most prized work of art! YOU are the one piece in his gallery that He beams over, that He is most proud of, that He ushers people towards to gaze upon!
  2. CREATED (Gen. 5:2):  “Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.” Creation implies intimacy. God could have merely spoken man into existance, yet He chose to hand-fashion Adam, forming him from the dust of the earth and breathing His own breath into his lungs! That same careful intimacy applied as He knitted you together in your mother’s womb and fills you with His Spirit!
  3. ANEW (2 Cr. 5:17): “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” In Jesus, you are NEW. You aren’t just a changed person – You are an entirely NEW person, alive through a miraculous work of the Holy Spirit! You are a child of God, a spirit with a body.
  4. THE GOOD THINGS HE PLANNED FOR YOU LONG AGO (Jer. 29:11): “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God cares for you so much that He personally and intimately planned out a custom-fit future just for you! He had every single one of your days written out before you even came into existence!

Next time you’re tempted to think that you’re not brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous – that you’re nothing more than ordinary – remember what God thinks of you, and rejoice! And do me a favor. Tell miss Negativity to pack her bags! Her words have no place in a child of God.

Goodness, I needed to hear this just now. Praise God for his perfect timing with that encouragment. I don’t know about you but all this blogging is delving into my insecurities. I’m so happy that lovely Christian women are coming into my life through this challenge! Thanks for your sweet comment. :) Jennifer

Thank you so much, Jennifer! Your feedback is so encouraging! I love hearing how the Lord orchestrates life so perfectly :) I agree – putting words out for strangers to read is really intimidating! I chose my series topic for that exact reason. I’m praying that the Lord works on my areas of insecurity as I write. It’s fun to build community and realize that insecurities are not so rare after all :) Blessings!

I love this, Caitlin! Your insight on the intimacy of creation is fabulous. I had never thought of it that way before, and yet, it’s so true. I think it’s a testament to how closely God wants to be a part of our lives!

I agree, Annie. Thanks for the encouragement! God gave me that little nugget of revelation one day as I was driving! We definitely serve a relational God. It’s quite mind-blowing to think about! He’s a good Daddy :)
